- Owned by a significant Lamborghini collector since 2015, who performed a full mechanical overhaul Daytona Automobil presents the 1989 Lamborghini LM002
This Lamborghini LM002 is an early carbureted example, featuring the 5.2-liter V12 from the Countach Quattrovalvole fitted with six Weber carburetors. Unlike later fuel-injected models this version delivers raw power with 450 horsepower and is paired with a five-speed dogleg manual transmission.
According to rumors surrounding this car’s history, it was originally ordered by Muammar Gaddafi for personal use. After his ownership, it was reportedly transferred to his lawyer, who later brought it to Marbella. From there, a Swedish owner acquired the vehicle, but due to missing paperwork, he initially struggled to register it in Sweden. Instead, the car was first registered in the Czech Republic before finally being legally imported to Sweden, where it remains registered today.
In 2015, the car changed hands again, this time purchased by a dedicated Lamborghini collector who owns several other iconic models. His personal mechanic conducted a full inspection, confirming excellent engine compression, negating the need for any major internal work. A complete mechanical overhaul was performed, and new tires were sourced—an extremely rare and difficult component to replace on these vehicles. The collector even took the LM002 on the Gumball 3000 rally, during which it was wrapped in satin gold. Since then, the car has remained in his collection with minimal use.
When acquired it back in 2015 the car had bulletproof inlays in the doors, which were removed due to practicality concerns. The black unit at the rear functions as auxiliary lighting, while the white dome at the front was originally installed for navigation. Inside the vehicle is equipped with a compass and a telecom system. The car is believed to be one of three LM002s ordered by Gaddafi for private use rather than military purposes, potentially explaining some of the unique factory equipment and the bulletproof inlays.
Although running very well, we recommend a service of all fluids before extensive driving. The car is missing its original booklets, but it retains its character and history as one of the most remarkable SUVs ever built.
Designed by Giulio Alfieri and produced between 1986 and 1993, the LM002 was Lamborghini’s first venture into the SUV segment, laying the groundwork for performance SUVs decades before the concept became mainstream. With its aggressive stance and legendary V12 powertrain, this LM002 is truly a piece of automotive history.
