Let us present you a Mercedes Benz 450 SLC with sunroof, authentic velor upholstery, very few owners, all history and in fantastic condition. The car has been in Sweden ever since it was delivered new. It has complete history including vehicle data sheets from Mercedes. 55 photos showing details and the car's condition can be found at vonBraun.com.
The car appears to have been an exclusive display example at the official Mercedes dealer until it was purchased by its first private owner in 1984. It was delivered from the well-known Swedish Mercedes dealer S.Johansson. The same person then owned the car for 35 years! That is, until 2019! It was purchased in 2022 by a new owner who was prepared to invest the love, time and money needed to restore it to its luster as a luxury GT car. It was in relatively good condition, but after serving as a prestige vehicle for 46 years, it showed some wear and light corrosion. It has therefore been carefully updated to regain its former beauty and freshness. All windows were dismantled and the bodywork was made completely free of rust. It then got a new paint job in its beautiful original blue metallic color - Magnetic Blue. Sunroof and window functions were dismantled and renovated. Both the underside of the bonnet, tailgate and around the doors were completely cleaned of sheet metal before new rust protection and painting. A new headliner has been fitted and the bright side panels on the roof pillars have regained their fresh original colour. The signature velor interior with vinyl panels has been cleaned and color enhanced but the fabric still shows some wear on the driver's seat. We have not been able to find a supplier of the uniquely striped textile material to be able to carry out an invisible repair. Both doors, tailgate and windows have received new rubber strips. Engine, transmission, final drive and brakes have been serviced with many new parts and of course oils and fluids. Rims have been blasted and powder coated before new tires were fitted. Some of the car's chrome details have been rechromed. An overhaul of the car's chassis and renewal of corrosion protection has been carried out. Ordinary service with air filter, ignition cables, distributor cap, spark plugs has been completed. Even the old speakers in the car are replaced by new ones and new cables to sound good.
This is a car that many would describe as being in mint condition. At von Braun Sports Cars, however, we are restrained with superlatives and give the car 4 out of 5 stars as it is so fantastically complete and in a very representative condition. The SLC coupes were very similar in appearance to the hard-top-equipped convertibles, although they had a higher roofline and were 14 inches longer due to the presence of two usable rear seats. Only half as many SLCs were produced as traditional SLs and the price of an SLC was shockingly high.
The Mercedes-Benz 450SLC's engine was a 4.5-liter, fuel-injected V-8 that had an overhead cam and delivered 230 horsepower. It was paired with a three-speed automatic, with no manual transmission as an option. The suspension was fully independent and four-wheel disc brakes were standard. A sunroof was a popular optional extra.
In 1976, the SLC was fitted with a continuous fuel injection system, as well as transistorized ignition. Two years later, in 1978, Mercedes introduced automatic climate control and 14-inch aluminum wheels as standard equipment. The cars remained unchanged in 1979. In 1980, the fuel injection system was revised, further reducing power in the engines before the model was replaced by the 380SL.
