For many, BMW M is a fairly broad concept today. That little letter that many people feel is so important on the tailgate of a 120i, but in practice, the emblem is perhaps the biggest difference. As an enthusiast, it's more fun to think back to an era where BMW M meant more. The M stood for Motorsport and cars that carried the emblem were special. A particularly good example of that is the 5-series of the E34 generation. Like this car...

This is of course a BMW M5 E34. A car that was hand-built by BMW's motorsport department. That alone is largely unthinkable today. The car was built and sold in an era where it was unique and even though there was competition from the Mercedes 500E and the like, BMW's M5 was something else. Seemingly a supercar with the guise of a sedan and in the contemporary BMW spirit. Elegant and sober. The E34 M5 had a production span of roughly 8 years with a few iterations and updates along the way. Most notably in 1992 when the displacement in the S38 engine grew from 3.6 liters to 3.8. 315hp became 340hp. But a major update also came in 1995 when the car was equipped with a 6-speed gearbox instead of the 5-speed the car had had up until then. This is a rather remarkable update as it came very late in the product life cycle and contributed to a major mechanical difference in the car. When production ceased in the fall of 1995, only 404 left-hand drive 6-speed cars had been produced for the European market.

This example rolled off the production line in June 1994 as a 1995 model and was sold new here in Malmö by Förenade Bil. According to reports, BMW Sweden only delivered three E34 M5s that year. Two in Malmö and one to Gothenburg. The first user, a bank director, used the car as intended. A missile for the businessman on the go before he sold the car back to BMW here in Malmö at the end of 2004. Just over a month later, the car was sold to its current user who has since been frugal with how the car has been used. Over the past 12 years, the car has only been driven a little over 5000 kilometers.

Today we have the great pleasure of offering this unique M5 E34 to the market in perhaps its best performance. With the 3.8 liter engine and the 6-speed gearbox. The exterior is in Arctic Silver and is paired with the iconic 'Style 37' rims for an elegant but sporty whole, a wheel that was only available for the 95/96 model years. It is an exterior that is quite sparing in expressing what awaits under the hood and really only gives an indication with the help of the emblem on the tailgate. Open the driver's door and you are met by a full leather interior in black. Functional and stylish. Not 15 buttons for selecting driving modes but instead the most necessary and all framed in leather.

An enormously well-kept example with a unique history and sparingly used. A real unique in today's market.
