“The 550 Barchetta Pininfarina is designed to recall the glories of successful road racers of the past, such as the 166 MM, and thoroughbred 12-cylinder front-engine Ferrari roadsters of the caliber of the 250 GT California and 365 GTS/4 Daytona . Ferrari has always created very special series of cars and the 550 Barchetta Pininfarina was developed with the aim of being a unique Ferrari – one that consciously strives to be more provocative and less rational than the rest of the range.” – Ferrari.

The long collaboration between Ferrari and Pininfarina has been responsible for the creation of some of the most sublime fusions of art and automotive technology, and to mark the 70th anniversary of the world-famous Carrozzeria in 2000, Ferrari supremo Luca di Montezemolo invited Sergio Pininfarina to submit designs for a front-engine roadster that embodies the spirit of past Maranello classics. Choosing the 550 Maranello coupe as a basis, the maestro proposed a return to the traditional barchetta style. In Ferrari's own words: “Functional and unadorned with a simple manual soft top, the barchetta-style solution has allowed Ferrari engineers to compensate for the extra weight by strengthening the chassis and installing roll bars at the rear. Consequently, the 550 Barchetta Pininfarina weighs no more than the 500 Maranello.”

The heart of any Ferrari is the engine, and the Barchetta Pininfarina's 5.5-litre, 48-valve V12 is the same as that of the 550 Maranello, developing 485bhp at 7,000rpm.

Standard equipment included a six-speed manual gearbox, electric windows and door mirrors, air conditioning, remote alarm and central locking, and two-piece alloy wheels. The production run was limited to 448 cars, each individually numbered and fitted with a plaque inside with its own serial number and Sergio Pininfarina's signature. The result was an instant classic, production of which was reserved for a handful of loyal Ferraristi.

This 550 Barchetta was ordered new through the Ferrari dealer Garage Zenith in Sion, Switzerland. The car spent its first years in Switzerland before moving to its second and last owner in France.

The most recent major maintenance was carried out in 01-2022 at 8,644 kilometers, during which the timing belts were replaced at a cost of €2,950.56. The car has seen little use since then and currently has an original total of 8,756 kilometers on the odometer. The previous owner confirmed to us that the Barchetta has never suffered any accident damage and is still exactly as it left the factory in 2001. Accompanying documentation includes French registration documents; a certificate of conformity; and various invoices for work carried out.
