But in the 1950s, Mercedes-Benz decided that alongside the 300SL, there should also be a more accessible roadster: The Mercedes-Benz 190SL was born and, even today, it certainly holds its own against its ‘big brother’!
The Mercedes-Benz 190SL is a delightful touring car with a stunning appearance. And how could it not be, as it’s based on the 300SL but built exclusively as a roadster. The 1.9-liter four-cylinder engine has a calm character, yet it still offers enough power to keep up with traffic with ease. The Solex carburetors are known for making the engine run rough and increasing fuel consumption if not properly maintained. However, that’s not the case with this example—the engine starts smoothly and runs perfectly.
This particular model has been well cared for, and it shows. You won’t find any rust on this 62-year-old Mercedes. The red fabric soft top is also like new, with no tears or unsightly creases. Stepping inside feels like stepping back in time, as the interior has been restored to perfect condition! The red leather seats are comfortable, and there are no scratches on the metal dashboard. The red leather atop the dashboard is likewise in excellent condition and beautifully complements the silver paintwork.
