After last year's very exciting Targa variant, the start of the season brings a beautiful 968 Cabrio to the base of our company. The Porsche 968 is one of the rarest front-engined Porsches. Only 12,780 were made, but of these, only 1,949 were convertibles, making this fire-red Stuttgart sports car a genuine individuality on the local roads.
The 968 was the crowning jewel of Porsche's transaxle (front-engine, rear-wheel drive) coupés, concluding the model series that began with the 924. Moreover, it's an outstanding car, with a three-liter engine churning out 240 horsepower, and reaching top speeds of 254 km/h. Its Triptonic automatic transmission not only allows for quick and precise shifts but also makes city driving more comfortable. Clearly, the 968 was designed as a true sports car, whose performance and unfiltered driving experience remain unparalleled to this day.
It was built on the already popular basis of the 944 S2 but featured a stronger engine and a more modern, distinctly aesthetic body. It is one of, if not the most beautiful pop-up headlamp models, whose bumper design elements were even adopted by the 993. Its very modern-looking rear lights are completely red, with color filters used to change the light color for signaling and reversing, which was considered almost space-age technology at the time.
The model currently offered for sale is a rare convertible version in a striking color combination. The car arrived to us from the spanish region, so there is no rust on the body, not even at the critical points. Naturally, owing to its Mediterranean origin, aside from the convertible top being opened on hot summer days, it also features air conditioning among its comfort electronics.
In the international market, quality pieces currently start at 25,000 euros, but similarly rare versions far exceed this price. It has become extremely popular and favored among collectors recently, hence its prospects for value appreciation are outstanding.
