- This E9-generation BMW 3.0 CSL is a remarkably rare example of the stylish classic homologation special coupe, presented in the vibrant colour of Verona Red.
- Under the bonnet sits the matching-numbers naturally aspirated 3.0-litre fuel-injected inline-six, producing around 197bhp and driving the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transmission.
- This right-hand drive, UK-market 3.0 CSL is one of only 500 examples produced.
- It was in long-term ownership for 33 years between 1987 and 2020, and during this time it received a full repaint in 2009 due to the detailing company damaging the paint when working on the car.
- It is reported to have had four private owners in UK prior to its import to Sweden in 1994. It is currently registered in Sweden (EU). The car is now located in Eslöv, Sweden, and has been with the seller for two years.
- The odometer displays 87,300 miles; however, this is not warranted but is believed to be accurate.
EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES
- Introduced at the 1971 Geneva Motor Show, the 3.0 CSL was created to homologate the model for racing in the European Touring Car Championship.
- The ‘L’ in the model designation stands for leicht (light), with a 200 kg weight loss achieved by manufacturing the body in thinner steel, using an aluminium bonnet, doors, and boot lid, and Perspex side windows, with much of the trim and sound proofing removed.
- The 500 UK-market examples were not as light as their European counterparts due to the usually optional ‘City Package’ being fitted, which retained some of the interior conveniences, including electric windows, a standard front bumper, power steering, sound deadening, and the rear windscreen defroster.
- This example is finished in the special-order hue of Verona Red with black ‘3.0 CSL’ side stripes and distinctive chrome wheel arches, over a black vinyl-trimmed interior punctuated by handsome wood trim on the dashboard, centre console, and door cards.
- It rides on a set of 14-inch alloy wheels with painted black centres, shod in Falken Sincera tyres.
- The factory specification includes a leather-trimmed three-spoke steering wheel, Scheel sports seats, heater and ventilation controls, a Pioneer cassette stereo, and a locking glove compartment.
- The car will be accompanied by a spare wheel, a copy of a magazine feature on the vehicle, and the registration documents and handbooks.
